Drunken N.Y. writer with an equally boozy boyfriend checks into rehab after an alcohol-induced accident. She gradually conforms to the program after the institution's seen-it-all patients swing their hatchets at the chip on her shoulder. After a strong beginning, film takes a quick nosedive by going for too many cheap belly-laughs. Helping to a point are generally strong performances, including Bullock's best to date.
